Privacy Authorities Australia (PAA) is an inter-jurisdictional forum where ideas, developments, resources and experiences are shared to improve Australia’s collective information privacy practices.

Established in 2008, this collaboration remains essential to privacy authorities’ effectiveness. It aids our ability to contribute solutions to information privacy complaints, breaches and policy challenges that cross borders or involve complex systems and technologies.

As the privacy landscape becomes more complex, retaining specialised expertise within a single jurisdiction becomes increasingly challenging. By working together, we can leverage each authority’s strengths and implement a more robust and complete approach to information privacy than we could individually.

In 2018, PAA established a cross-jurisdictional Policy Group to help achieve this vision. It provides a formal avenue where policy officers can meet to discuss matters of common interest, share ideas and experiences and work together to enhance Australia’s information privacy policy capacity.
