State Records is conducting a survey of all public sector agencies current information management practices compliance against the Information Management Standard (Standard) under section 15 of the State Records Act 1997 (SR Act).

The official Survey mechanism is the Self-Assessment Tool.

Responses to this Survey should be coordinated by agencies internally.

How to complete the Survey

1. Complete the Self-Assessment Tool

Before completing the Survey, your agency will first need to complete the Self-Assessment Tool. More information about the Tool can be found on our Self-Assessment Tool page.

2. Generate Capability Model Report

Upon completion of the ‘Detailed Assessment’ spreadsheet, the Self-Assessment Tool has been designed to automatically generate a Capability Model Report identifying your agency’s maturity and capability level.

The ratings for each of the prescribed behaviours contained in the Capability Model Report must be entered directly into the Survey.

3. Submit Survey Response

Survey responses must be submitted via the online Survey form.  Your agency will need to enter the relevant details and submit to State Records.

Overall Compliance Report

Once the completed Survey has been submitted, State Records will analyse agency results and prepare a de-identified whole of public sector survey report. This will allow you to compare your agency’s current information practices against the average for your relevant sector (e.g. state government, local government and universities).

Teams Channel

The Information Governance Guidelines (IGG) and Self-assessment Tools Teams channel has been developed to help agencies comply with the Standard and completing the Self-assessment Tool.

Join the Teams Channel (State Gov only).

Alternatively, use the form below to register to join the Channel if you are not in State Gov or if the link above does not work.

State Records staff will use this channel to forward updates in relation to the Survey and respond to enquiries regarding the IGG, Self-assessment Tool and the Survey. The Survey will also accessible via this channel.
