State Records recently conducted a survey of agencies information management practices against the Information Management Standard (the Standard). This survey was conducted under section 15 of the State Records Act 1997 (SR Act).

State Records Self-Assessment Tool (Tool) was used by agencies to assess their own maturity levels. The Tool provided a score and generated a report that identified and helps agencies prioritise areas to address. Agencies then provided their score to State Records via an online form.

This survey establishes a baseline rating    across South Australian universities, state and local government organisations for 2023-24. Future surveys will enable State Records to identify areas of improvement and will further help inform policy decisions moving forward.

The combined survey response rate including all universities, state and local government organisations was 93%.

Reports

State Records collated the data and the de-identified results have been split into three reports.

2023-24 Information Management Maturity Survey Report - State Government
(including boards and committees, minister’s offices and statutory authorities)

2023-24 Information Management Maturity Survey Report - Local Government
(including subsidiaries and regional subsidiaries)

2023-24 Information Management Maturity Survey Report - Universities

What’s next?

Although some agencies may not have achieved the benchmark for some behaviours, they are encouraged to use the reports generated in the Tool to work towards improving information management practices.

These reports prioritise areas for improvement and reference the Information Governance Guideline sections that provide information to help achieve the benchmark for each behaviour, in turn complying with the Standard.

Agencies are encouraged to continue using the Tool outside of survey periods to track progress and maintain an up to date assessment priority report.

Information session

An information session was held on Thursday 26 September 2024 to discuss the survey results.
