Agencies are responsible for dealing with mouldy and damaged information assets.

Recovery and restoration

If information assets are mouldy or have been damaged they may be able to be treated and restored to a stable condition for ongoing management and preservation.

Agencies must take care handling mouldy and damaged information assets. For example, we recommend wearing gloves and a mask when handling mouldy information assets.

Agencies can use the services of disaster recovery specialists to assist with the:

  • Transport of damaged information assets
  • Retrieval and packing of water-damaged paper-based information assets
  • Recovery of bound volumes (not already stored in boxes)
  • Recovery of flat photographic information assets (printed on paper, film and or other supports e.g. metal, glass, etc)
  • Recovery of oversized information assets e.g. maps, cartographic materials
  • Freezing water-damaged information assets
  • Vacuum freeze-drying water-damaged information assets
  • Air-drying information assets
  • Sanitisation and/or decontamination of information assets
  • Cleaning of information assets.
