State Records has published a standard and a functional specification to assist agencies in managing official records generated by their business systems.Management of Official Records in a Business System
A finding aid is a tool that helps to identify records that might be relevant to your research.
The finding aids available in the Research Centres were produced by staff and volunteers over many years. They include guides to Aboriginal History and Family History, indexes, series lists, and itemised special lists.
Finding aids are available in hard copy format at the Research Centres. We are continuing to add electronic versions of our finding aids to the range available on-line through ArchivesSearch.
State Records' on-line collection catalogue is called ArchivesSearch. Its searching functions help you to identify records in the State Records' collection that are relevant to your research.
To date only a fraction of the special lists and indexes have been entered into ArchivesSearch so searching to unit and item level may be limited. Electronic versions of our finding aids are continually being added to the range available on-line through ArchivesSearch.
You can go directly to ArchivesSearch by selecting Access Collection Catalogue from the blue banner at the top of the page.
More information on ArchivesSearch and archival control systems can be found at the links below.
Please note: There are no digital images of records available online.
State Records has produced a number of information sheets listing records relating to passenger lists and assisted immigration. View these information sheets using the links below.
Other finding aids and resources, described in the lists below, are available at the Gepps Cross Research Centre. Some may also be available at the City Research Centre.
