Special lists are available at both Research Centres. Only a small number of record series have special lists and only a limited number of these are searchable using Name Search in ArchivesSearch.
Special Lists provide a detailed breakdown of information in an individual series of records.
Types of Special Lists include:
Alphabetical name indexes to particular series e.g. GRS 2414 Register of Prisoners - Adelaide Gaol, Special List lists names of prisoners [see Example 1]
Itemised lists of photographs or plans from pictorial series e.g. GRG 35/337 South Australian and Northern Territory maps, Special list describes each item in the series [see Example 2]
Chronological or numerical lists of correspondence which provide file number, name of writer and subject e.g. GRG 5/2 Correspondence Files (PCO Files) - Police Commissioners Office, Special List describes correspondence in chronological order by year and file number [see Example 3]
Itemised lists for 'miscellaneous' series e.g. GRG 10/26 Miscellaneous papers of the Australian Dairy Produce Board 1923 - 1972.
Please note: only a small number of record series have special lists.
