The Information Privacy Principles Instruction

The State Government of South Australia is committed to protecting the privacy of your information. In 1992, the State Government of South Australia re-issued a set of Information Privacy Principles (IPPs) which regulate the way it can collect, use, store and disclose personal information.

However, this Cabinet Administrative Instruction does not apply to the Local Government of South Australia.

A modified form of the IPPs has been issued for application to information on South Australian State Government websites - Privacy Guidelines for South Australian Government World Wide Websites.

Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988

Under the Commonwealth Privacy Act, 1988, the Federal Government has an interest in ensuring the privacy of your information where it relates to Federal Departments and Private Businesses.

For more information on the Commonwealth Act:

In February 2002 the South Australian Crown Solicitors Office released Legal Bulletin Number 29, providing advice to South Australian Agencies on the effect of the latest amendments to the Commonwealth Privacy Act.
