Ordering Records

State Records’ catalogue ArchivesSearch, can be used to browse our collection and order many records for viewing at our Gepps Cross Research Centre. ArchivesSearch is available here on the State Records website.

Please note that ArchivesSearch does not contain digital images of records.

 How to order using ArchivesSearch

Instructions on ordering records for viewing in our Research Centre are available at the ‘How to Order’ instruction page on ArchivesSearch. Researchers are also welcome to visit our Research Centre where staff will be happy to assist.

Researchers may order records which have been deemed open by the responsible agency. Authorisation to access restricted records must be sought from the agency responsible. Please refer to our ‘Access’ Fact Sheet for further information.

Researchers may order up to ten items at a time.

Viewing records at our Research Centre

State Records’ collection is housed in our repositories at Gepps Cross and Collinswood. To ensure same-day viewing of records held at Gepps Cross, orders need to be placed one hour before closing time. Please see our Research Centre services for further information on opening hours.

Extended waiting times apply to the viewing of records which are held at our Collinswood repository. Please contact a Reference Officer for further information.

 Records available on microfilm

For preservation purposes, a number of frequently accessed records have been made available on microfilm or microfiche for viewing within our Research Centre. Series descriptions in ArchivesSearch give an indication of whether the records are available in this format.
