Inquest files - City Coroner 1867 - 1876
This series comprises records of coronial hearings into deaths and fires where an inquest was deemed necessary by the Coroner.
Information contained in an inquest file varies over time, but generally records name, former residence and occupation of deceased, date, place and cause of death, name, address and occupation of witnesses, reason for holding inquest, date and place of inquest, name of Justice of the Peace/Coroner, transcripts of evidence and findings of inquest.
The Special List is arranged alphabetically by the surname of the deceased and also includes the date of the death, a location where the inquest was held and the file number.
Note: Inquests for the period 1877-1930 were authorised for pulping during World War II as part of the war effort.
